Is My Tesla Cybertruck a Lemon?
Is My Tesla Cybertruck a Lemon?
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s distinctive line of pickup trucks, which first appeared on US roads in late 2023. As of 2025, the Cybertruck is available in three variants: a tri-motor and a dual-motor all wheel drive (AWD) model and a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) model.
Since their debut, Cybertrucks have become the subject of many online discussions, videos, and articles about their manufacturing and performance issues. As of April 21, 2025, the Cybertruck is named in nine open recalls, three investigations, and 47 complaints received by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Many of these communications name issues that threaten the safety of those who occupy a Cybertruck or those who share the roads with Cybertruck drivers.

Common Tesla Cybertruck Problems That May Mean You Have a Lemon
To date, the NHTSA lists nine open recalls for Cybertruck vehicles. These recalls list several known issues, including exterior trim detachment, sensor and warning light issues, inverter problems, rearview camera problems, windshield wiper failures, and trapped vehicle pedals.
Exterior trim detachment: The 2024 and 2025 Tesla Cybertruck was recalled in March 2025 because exterior trim panels can fall off the vehicle while driving. These panels can become a road hazard, posing serious safety risks to others on the road.
Sensor and warning light issues: The 2024 Cybertruck was recalled in December 2024 for issues with the tire sensor warning light. These problems could cause drivers to drive with improperly inflated tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
Inverter problems: The 2024 Cybertruck was recalled in November 2024 for inverter problems that can cause a loss of drive power, leading to a crash.
Rearview camera problems: In September 2024, the 2024 Cybertruck became the subject of a recall for problems with the vehicle’s rear camera. The rear camera display may not appear to the driver, which can increase the risk of a driver backing into an object or person.
Trunk bed trim detachment: In the 2024 model year Cybertruck, the trunk bed trim can detach while the vehicle is in motion. If this occurs, the trim can land in the roadway, posing a risk to other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash.
Windshield wiper failure: One of the Cybertruck’s many distinctive features is its use of a single large windshield wiper rather than dual wipers. In June 2024, however, the 2024 model year Cybertruck became the subject of a recall for its windshield wipers. The wiper can fail, preventing drivers from seeing the road ahead in rainy weather or if mud or other substances splash onto the windshield. Having no way to clear the windshield increases the risk of a crash.
Trapped vehicle pedals. In April 2024, the 2024 model year Cybertruck was recalled because the accelerator pedal could become trapped when pressed down. A trapped pedal could cause the vehicle to accelerate outside the driver’s control, risking a crash.
A Cybertruck can also pose issues that aren’t listed in a recall notice. If you experience such issues, speak to an experienced California lemon law attorney as soon as possible.

How Does Southern California Lemon Law Protect You if Your Tesla Cybertruck is a Lemon?
California lemon law requires an automaker to provide compensation when a vehicle’s defects cannot be repaired after a “reasonable number” of attempts. A “reasonable number” of repair attempts might be as few as two.
Under California lemon law, an automaker who cannot repair the vehicle after a reasonable number of tries will owe the vehicle’s owner a refund or a “substantially similar” replacement vehicle. The automaker may also be required to pay “incidental and consequential” damages for costs like towing fees and the auto owner’s attorney’s fees, costs, and expenses.
California’s lemon law exists to protect those who buy a vehicle expecting it to be safe and reliable but who instead receive a vehicle that imperils their safety and health, their use or even the value of the vehicle.
