GMC Sierra Lemon Law Lawyer

The GMC Sierra is one of the most popular half-ton pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors (GM). Customers love GMC Sierra tracks for their durability and versatility. They also feature a luxurious interior, LED lighting, and bed space. Unfortunately, GMC Sierra trucks are prone to defects and have been the subject of multiple recalls. If you purchase a GMC Sierra and are experiencing problems with it that GM or the dealer hasn’t resolved, you may have purchased a lemon.

Common Problems With GMC Sierra Lemons

Recent model year GMC Sierra trucks have experienced all of the following defects:

  •  Problems starting up
  •  Running board malfunctions
  •  Engine problems
  •  Drive train problems
  •  Exhaust and emission problems
  •  Erratic fuel gauge operation
  •  Loss of power steering
  •  Improper HVAC temperature/air quality
  •  Check engine light problems
  •  Radio and/or computer system freezing up
  •  Rattling air conditioner belt tensioners
  •  Steering and suspension problems
  •  Anti-lock braking system defects

These are not the only problems demonstrating that your truck is a lemon, but they are some of the most common issues.

California’s Lemon Law for GMC Vehicles

When a vehicle has already been repaired under warranty and has a single defect or multiple problems that satisfy California lemon law requirements, the owner may be entitled to relief. California lemon law allows qualifying owners to obtain a replacement vehicle or require the dealership to buy back their current lemon. The owner of the vehicle needs to allow the GM dealership to make a reasonable number of repair attempts on their vehicle before they can seek a remedy through the lemon law. Depending on the seriousness of the issue, two repair attempts could be enough to satisfy that requirement. The repair attempts do not need to be for the same defect in the GMC Sierra.

Leased GMC Sierras and California’s Lemon Law

Yes, you can seek relief through California’s lemon law with a leased GMC Sierra as long as it is currently under the manufacturer’s warranty. Additionally, you can still recover compensation if you are leasing a GMC Sierra that has required several repairs.

How Much Is My GMC Sierra Lemon Law Claim Worth?

If your GMC Sierra is a lemon, you will be able to recover actual damages. These damages include a buyback of your vehicle plus incidental and consequential damages you’ve incurred while your vehicle was at the shop. If you can show that GMC intentionally violated California’s lemon laws by refusing to compensate you or buy back your Sierra, you may be entitled to twice the amount of your actual damages. If you would like to pursue damages under California’s lemon law, we recommend working with an experienced attorney. The lemon law attorneys at Wirtz Law have extensive experience in negotiating with auto makers at all stages to obtain the most compensation possible in your case. When necessary, we will litigate your case before a jury so you can have your day in court.

Software Recall for 2019 GMC Sierras

GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados have identical chassis, engines, and general technologies. However, newer models have a slight advantage with interior finishes. Mechanically, these trucks are the same. In many cases, GMC Sierra owners and Chevy Silverado owners will experience similar problems and recalls. General Motors recently issued another recall for 2019 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado pickup trucks to fix a defective software issue.

The issue may cause warning lights to malfunction and has impacted over 148,000 vehicles. There’s a software problem in which warning lights for the anti-lock brake system and the electronic stability control may not illuminate properly. These issues could cause the driver to not know when the antilock brake system or stability control is malfunctioning.

What to Do If You Purchased a GMC Sierra Lemon

If your GMC Sierra has been experiencing some of the problems listed above or another type of problem, you may have purchased a lemon. Under California law, if your truck was repaired while still under warranty, the manufacturer has a legal obligation to rectify the problem. If you have made at least two repair attempts and your GMC Sierra is still not working correctly, you may have the right to file a claim. It’s crucial that you keep all of your documentation related to your GMC Sierra and its defects.

Keep all of the invoices and notes from your visits to the dealership for repairs. You will need to show that you have given the dealership a reasonable number of opportunities to fix the issue for you before you can obtain compensation. After you’ve allowed the dealership to repair your vehicle at least twice, we recommend reaching out to one of the experienced lemon law attorneys at Wirtz Law. We will review your case, and, if you have the right to seek compensation, we will begin diligently working on getting you the compensation you deserve.
