Experienced California Lemon Law Attorneys Help Owners of Unreliable Chrysler Vehicles
Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Chrysler is one of the “Big Three” US automakers, along with General Motors and Ford. Now a subsidiary of Stellantis, Chrysler has produced hundreds of vehicle models in its 100-year history. Its brands include Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Ram.
Some Chrysler vehicles are more reliable than others. The US News & World Report’s list of the most unreliable 2023 vehicles includes both Chrysler and Jeep vehicles – including the 2023 model year Chrysler Pacifica.
2023 Chrysler Vehicles With Low Reliability Scores
On the U.S. News & World Report list, the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica received a Predicted Reliability Score of 67/100. This score ties the Pacifica with the 2023 Lexus NX and falls short of the scores received by the Audi Q5, Toyota Tundra, and Volvo XC40.
The US News & World Report’s testing included both the Pacifica and the Pacifica Hybrid. The gasoline-powered Chrysler Pacifica has an MSRP of $37,270; the hybrid version costs approximately $13,500 more.
Reviewers praised the 2023 Pacifica’s features, passenger and cargo space, smooth ride, and quick acceleration. However, they noted that the rear seats are less comfortable than those in similar vehicles like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.
Other vehicles with low-reliability scores in the US News & World Report testing include the Jeep Wagoneer, the Audi A6, and the Volkswagen GTI.
Recent Recalls and Reported Issues With Chrysler Vehicles
To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced four recalls, including the 2023 model year Chrysler Pacifica. Problems listed in the recalls include
- Problems with the driver’s side airbag which may cause the airbag not to deploy in a crash. If the airbag does not deploy, the risk of injury increases.
- A short circuit in the battery post can cause a battery fire while the vehicle is parked or driving.
- A deformation in a fuel line can cause a leak. If the leak is exposed to an ignition source, fire or explosion may occur.
- An electrical short can cause an unexpected engine shutdown, which could increase the risk of a crash.
The NHTSA has also received 22 complaints about unreliable or defective 2023 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles as of April 24, 2024. These complaints cover issues in a wide variety of systems, including:
- Chrysler Pacifica engines,
- Electrical system issues,
- Fuel or propulsion system issues,
- Power train problems and
- Steering issues.
Problems with the forward collision avoidance system, lane departure features, seats, service brakes, vehicle speed control, and suspension have also been reported to the NHTSA.
How to Protect Your Rights Under Lemon Law
California’s lemon law provides protections and legal remedies for vehicle owners who bought or purchased an unreliable vehicle. Here are several steps you can take to protect your rights under the state’s lemon law:
- Keep your records and paperwork in one place. Gather together a copy of your warranty, any other paperwork from your purchase or lease, and copies of all the paperwork you received from the dealership when you take the car in for service. If you have other expenses, like renting a vehicle or buying a bus pass, keep copies of your receipts in your file as well. This information can help you build a claim for compensation.
- Take your vehicle to the dealership for service. Under California lemon law, it’s important to demonstrate that you gave the automaker a reasonable number of opportunities to fix the problems with your vehicle. To qualify, you will need at least two attempts to fix your vehicle. To do so, make sure you take your vehicle to the dealership for repairs each time an issue appears. Even if the dealership can’t duplicate the problem and performs no repairs, that presentation to the dealer counts as an opportunity to fix the defect in your vehicle.
- Speak to an experienced attorney. Automakers have an army of attorneys on staff who focus on protecting the automaker, even when a vehicle owner has a valid lemon law claim. Having an attorney who is an expert in lemon law on your side can protect your interests and fight for the full compensation you’re owed under the law.
